I have lived and worked in Cromarty for twenty years. My paintings are always a reaction to my surroundings, so Cromarty features fairly often, but a decorative jug, brightly coloured material, or flowers can equally grab my attention. I always work quickly and at the moment find that watercolour or gouache and pastel on paper best suits me.
I was fortunate to have spent my formative years in another beautiful part of Ross-shire, in Plockton, where my late father, the poet Sorley Maclean, was headmaster. From there I went to Edinburgh College of Art and studied drawing and painting at a time when John Houston, Elizabeth Blackadder and Robin Phillipson, amongst others, taught in the department. This time has had a lasting influence on my work.
Painting prices range from £90 to £500.
I hope you enjoy the work on my site.
